Karyotyping and genetic screening for the carrier status of particular diseases including cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy, hemoglobinopathies, Tay-Sachs disease, and fragile X syndrome are among the genetic testing that may be performed on donors.
In addition to existing donor selection procedures, genetic screening is carried out.
